APPLY TO THE LEAD DEBATERS — CAMPUS LEAGUE

Where Exceptional Students Begin Their Leadership Journey

Are you prepared to stand before the nation and speak for your university?
Do you have the clarity, courage, and intellectual discipline to defend ideas that matter?

The Lead Debaters: Campus League offers outstanding students the opportunity to compete on a national platform — on television, online, and across Africa — while developing the skills, presence, and influence necessary for future leaders.

 WHO CAN APPLY?

 Undergraduate Students

This program is open to undergraduates currently enrolled in an accredited Nigerian university who are eager to compete as part of a two-person debate team. Applicants should have the confidence and support of their institution, demonstrated through a recommendation or endorsement from their department, faculty, or debate society.

 Universities & Faculties

Institutions may officially nominate one team of two debaters, with the option to name a backup team. Each university is also expected to assign a faculty liaison or officer to serve as the main contact for all Campus League communications.

 WHAT WE LOOK FOR

Our selection process emphasizes qualities that define a true intellectual leader. We value teams that demonstrate clarity of thought, strong evidence-based argumentation, and a balanced harmony between speakers. Composure under pressure, originality, and a high level of intellectual maturity are central to our evaluation. Most importantly, we seek individuals who debate ethically and respectfully — not just speakers, but thinkers capable of shaping conversations that impact society.

 THE APPLICATION PROCESS

STEP 1 — University Nomination

Your university begins the process by endorsing your team and submitting your basic details to TLD.

STEP 2 — Online Application

Nominated teams then complete the official TLD application form, which includes uploading an introduction video, written responses, and academic verification. Teams may also include a debate clip if available.

STEP 3 — Screening & Shortlisting

Our review panel evaluates all applications and identifies the teams that will progress to the next stage.

STEP 4 — Invite to Season Selection

Shortlisted universities receive an official TLD Selection Pack with instructions for the final evaluation phase.

STEP 5 — Final Selection Announcement

Following the selection process, twenty-four universities are chosen to participate in the season.
